Oven Baked Dog Food: Our Review of Wet Noses Food for Dogs

With all the different dog foods and all the different varieties of dog food, it can be difficult to know what to choose for your dog. There’s kibble, canned food, raw, freeze-dried raw, raw coated kibble, fresh premade, homemade….the list goes on and on. Most people think one or the other is best, but in reality, the best dog food is one that is balanced, your dog enjoys and does well on. Our dogs had the pleasure to try a new type of dog food recently that is slow cooked in an oven called Wet Noses.

What makes Wet Noses Dog Food Unique

Wet Noses’ product lineup includes oven baked dog food and treats. They use human-grade, non-GMO, and organic ingredients. They’re made in Seattle, WA in a bakery that is SQF Level 3 and USDA Human Grade certified.

According to InnovativeLabs,

‘The Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI) offers SQF Level 3 as the highest distinction in its rigorous food safety and quality program, which is designed to control food quality-related threats in response to increasing consumer scrutiny.”

Not many pet food brands can claim this, so it does provide a lot of confidence in how the product is prepared!

The Food

Overview

Wet Noses Oven Baked Dog Food is complete and balanced and formulated to meet AAFCO’s standard for all life stages - from puppy to seniors! Unlike most kibble that’s cooked at high temperatures, Wet Noses is slow baked at lower temperatures to preserve more nutrients and allow for better digestion. This is a fresher food option without the need to keep refrigerated. For those that want to feed their dog a nutrient dense food, but are worried about possible pathogens in raw or fresh foods, this food is a great option!

Ingredients

Wet Noses offers three variations of their oven baked food: Turkey, Chicken and Beef. You can view the ingredients for their Chicken Recipe here. They use many nutrient dense ingredients like real meat, fresh vegetables and add omega 3’s and 6’s to support a healthy skin & coat. I particularly like that whole meat is the number one ingredient.

Price

The price of Wet Noses Oven Baked Food is typically more expensive than a high end kibble, but more affordable than most raw and fresh food diets. Taste Test

My dogs really liked the taste of this food! One of my dogs (Koba) is very picky and only likes very meaty food, and he loves this food! It looks similar to freeze dried food, but the texture is denser and similar to kibble. It comes in small bite size pieces, and you can see the bits of veggies in each one. Because of the size, this food would also make a great training treat!

The Treats

Wet Noses sells crunchy treats and training treats. The crunchy treats are biscuit style treats, and they offer them in a wide variety of flavors. One unique thing about this brand is they also sell 15 lb bulk tubs of these treats!

Their training treats are very small and have a similar texture to their oven baked food. Because of the size, I would say these training treats are better suited for small dogs and puppies. Like their dog food, all of their treats are made from human-grade and non-GMO ingredients.

The Big Bones from Wet Nose are huge!

They also offer large bones biscuits in Pumpkin & Quinoa and Peanut Butter & Molasses! These are very big biscuits, and I split one between two of my German Shepherds. These would probably be difficult to break up for small dogs, but they’re perfect for larger dogs! If your dog likes biscuit style treats, they’re bound to love these!

Summary

If you’re looking for a fresh dog food without having to worry about storage issues or possible cross contamination, this is a great food to consider! It’s one of the few dog foods from a SQF Level 3 and USDA Human Grade facility. They formulate their diets with non-GMO, human grade fresh ingredients, and they’re a cheaper alternative to most fresh or raw dog foods! My dogs loved the taste of this food, and it was a nice change from their typical kibble. If your dog likes biscuits treats, be sure to check out their wide variety of treat flavors. We particularly like the Big Bone treats for larger dogs!
